HOOKER, Sir Joseph Dalton (1817-1911). Botanist and traveller.
Letter Signed ('Jos. D. Hooker') to Thompson, 1 page 8vo on black-edged paper, The Camp, Sunningdale, 1 August 1888. Giving details of rainfall, and sending news of a mutual friend's condition.
Hooker retired from directorship of Kew in 1885 on medical advice, and moved to Sunningdale where he remained for the rest of his life. Once he was relieved of official obligations, he was able to continue scientific research at Kew with renewed strength.
