ELIOT, George. Mary Ann Lewes (1819-1880). Novelist.
Autograph Letter Signed ('M.E. Lewes') to [Joseph] Langford, the London representative of her publishers, Blackwoods, ½-page 8vo, The Priory, Regents Park, 17 May 1873. Asking for a copy of 'The Spanish Gypsy'.
George Eliot's verse play The Spanish Gypsy was published in June 1868, the title being chosen, George Eliot said, 'because it is a little in the fashion of the elder dramatists, with whom I have perhaps more cousinship than with recent poets'.
