Sir Walter Scott to Charles Tilt
This is a remarkably common facsimile which is frequently mistaken for the real thing. I first saw one of these in one of the leading London auction houses in the early 1960s. The reason for it being so often taken for real is that there is generally an attached address-leaf with postal cancellation and a wax letter-close (seal). We do not presently have an example of the address-leaf to illustrate. This is the text of the letter, which is in uncompromisingly black ink.
