This letter is a representative example of those sent in response to letters of congratulations on avoiding war. The owner of this example, who could not bring himself to sell until 2001, told us that 'I wrote thanking him for avoiding war, "peace in our time" was not to be and so I served in the army from 39-46 being Territorial to my cost blind and deaf'. It is not easy having to tell men like this that their treasured possessions have no value.
