BRITTEN, Benjamin (1913-1976). Composer
Typewritten Letter Signed to Ronald Senator, 1 page 4to, The Red House, Aldeburgh, 9 August 1971. Regretting that the Monserrat conference coincides exactly with the Aldeburgh Festival, so that he cannot take place and declining also to write a piece of music for the occasion.
'... Would you please give the Committee my sincere regrets for having to refuse both these invitations, but make it clear how much I admire the tradition of singing at Monserrat and how I have vivid memories of attending some services there in the 1930's, and of being greatly impressed and moved [the last two words added by hand].'
