Autograph Letter Signed ("Saml. L. Clemens / Mark Twain"), to Arthur E Bancroft, 2 facing pages 8vo, Cunard Steam Ship Batavia, 'At Sea/30 October' (watermark 1871). Apologising for the delay in replying ('I was so hurried that I had to stop answering letters of all kinds'), thanking Bancroft for his invitation and promising to visit should he be in Cambridge.
The second page is somewhat browned, hardly detracting from the attractiveness of this letter with its rare double signature.
