NASMYTH, James (1808-1890). Engineer and inventor of the steam-hammer.
Autograph Letter Signed to T[homas] O[ldham] Barlow (1824-1889, mezzotint engraver), 1 page 8vo, Penshurst, Kent, 1 April 1869. Accepting his invitation ('The Society of artists and lovers of art in all its branches are to me the most attractive of all company').
'... I am glad to know "Gossende" is so success[ful] out of hand. I feel quite ashamed of occupying your valuable time with such work.'
In addition to his engineering work, Nasmyth was a trained and talented artist.
