STUKELEY, William (1687-1765). Antiquary. Document Signed ('William Stukeley rector of S. Geo. qu. Squa'), 1 page 8vo (oblong), 24 January 1758. Certififying that Margaret Countess of Hardwicke is still living. Signed also by the two churchwardens of the parish. With two cut signatures (C[orpus] C[hristie] C[ollege] C[ambridge] 1705, and 1720, mounted together. Stukeley was presented to the rectory of St George-the-Martyr in Queen Square, Kentish Town, London, by the Duke of Montagu in 1747. His unconventionality extended to delaying the service by an hour in 1764 in order that the congregation might witness an eclipse of the sun. [No: 7252]
