BRITTON, John (1771-1857). Antiquary, topographical & architectural writer. Autograph Letter Signed to M.A. Lower, 2 pages 16mo (part of the blank leaf torn away, the remainder with a note of identification), 18 March 1847. The recipient is very likely to Mark Antony Lower (1813-1876, Sussex historian). 'If I have not sent you a copy of the inclosed I think you will be pleased to possess it, & also in becoming acquainted with my esteemed friend, the author. I have mentioned your name & pursuits to Mr Ellis & he will be glad to join your Archaeological clan. I have looked out some drawings & papers for you.Lower had worked at his sister's school and East Hoathly, and later establised other schools at Alfriston and Lewes.
