Autograph Letter Signed ('D.M. Craik') to Dr West, 2 pages 16mo on separate conjugate leaves, no place, no date. Informing him that she has passed her ticket to a child who is in difficulties due to the death of her mother, and asking him to look after her. 'I have given a ticket to this child - Violetta Stanislaus - her father a music teacher is left with four motherless children & almost no means of keeping them or taking care of them. I believe this child - who is quite healthy ... might be saved from permanent damage - with proper care, such as she will get at the Hospital. Will you do your best for her? ...'Dinah Craik married late in life and in 1869 she and her husband adopted a baby abandoned in their parish.
