LEWIS, Sir George Cornewall (1806-1863). Politician and author.
Autograph Letter Signed ('G C Lewis') to Thomas Keightley (1789-1872, historian and author), 3½ pages 8vo (small mounting strip on last page), War Office, 22 November 1861. Thanking him for his new edition of Milton's poetical works, and asking him a question.

'... an interesting literary question connected with Milton & whether he had ever read the poem of Dante. He was an Italian scholar, & yet I am not aware that there [is], either in Paradise Lost, or Paradise Regained, any trace of an imitation of the poem of Dante. ...'
