RAWLE, Richard (1812-1889). Bishop of Trinidad.
Autograph 'Enigma', 2 pages 8vo, no place, no date.

'Like conchshell to the ear applied
My First in sound recalls the tide
My Second often stands for you
When between friends there's money due
My Third pursues a busy trade
Makes sweets & cells but ne'er is paid
My Fourth altho' it heads an ass
In arts & letters first would pass
Lovely my whole, & yet a den,
Where mammon sells the world of men
Still flourishing, but many eyes
See in far lands her smoke arise.'
