Autograph Letter Signed to [the editor of the Northern Figaro], 3 pages 8vo, 1 South Parade, South Kensington, 14 March 1896. Declining to send a photograph ('as I am only the biographer, and because I think the portrait of my hero, Cardinal Manning ought along to have such a place of honour').
Purcell's biography of Manning was published in 1895, giving rise to controversy from his less than wholly complimentary portrait of his subject.
