Autograph Letter Signed to 'S P Lyman Esq.', 1 page 4to on blue paper with blank leaf, 'Jan 5' [in another hand 'Washington' and '1842']. Evidently a business or diplomatic letter.

'I enclose a few letters for Mr Ward [probably Thomas Wren Ward (1786-1858), the American agent for Baring Brothers]. The man to do him the most good in London, is Dr Holland [Henry Holland (later Sir Henry, 1788-1873), physician]. Let him also by all means see Lord Fitzwilliam. Letters to Mr ?Rines, & Mr Brown, (at Street Petersburg) & to our Charges D'affaires in Europe will be prepared tomorrow morning.
 'If Mr Ward would like letters from Sir Henry Bulwer, or M. Bodecompte, they can readily be obtained.'
