VICTORIA (1819-1901). Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Document Signed ('Victoria R' at the head), 2 pages 8vo on paper with integral endorsed leaf and papered seal, St James's, 17 June 1850. A licence to plead granted to Sir John Jervis in the case of the widow Mary Saunders, who had been arraigned on charges of 'certain conspiracies and misdemeanours'.
Sir John Jervis (1802-1856) was at this time attorney-general and responsible for the prosecutions of the Chartist insurgents. It seems likely that Mary Saunders had been among the rioters.
The document is countersigned at the foot by Sir George Grey (1799-1882, home secretary).
