ROSCOE, William (1753-1831) Historian and patron of the arts.
Autograph Letter Signed to Messrs Loddiges of Hackney, 1 page 4to with address-leaf bearing red wax seal, Liverpool, 24 February 1821. Explaining that he has been unaware that the curator of the local botanical garden had sent a specimen of Canna and pointing out not only a mis-spelling in the original name but that he had subsequently decided to change it
'... the Canna - figured in No. 45 your Bot. Cabinet - under the name of C. aurovittata (erroneously printed auravittata) I beg leave to inform you that altho'such name was first suggested, I had afterwards adopted that of libata ...'
