ENGLEFIELD, Sir Henry Charles (ca. 1752-1822). Antiquary and scientific writer. Autograph Letter Signed to [John] Flaxman, 1 page 4to with remains of an address-leaf and red wax seal, Scarborough, 10 October 1783. Telling him that Lady Buck would like to see a monument before it is sent to the country, and offering to make a further payment on account. Englefield's father, also Sir Henry, had died three years previous to the date of this letter. He had been married to Catharine Buck (1725-1805), daughter of Sir Charles Buck. In the circumstances it would appear likely that the letter refers to a memorial by Flaxman to the earlier Sir Henry.Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903. [No: 24714]
