LISTER, Joseph (1827-1912). Surgeon. Founder of antiseptic surgery.
Autograph Letter Signed ('Joseph Lister') to an unnamed correspondent, 3 pages 8vo on black-edged paper, 12 Park Crescent, Portland Place, 13 August 1894. Returning some papers, commenting on them, and mentioning Cheyne, probably (Sir) William Watson Cheyne (1852-1932, bacteriologist and surgeon, who had been a pupil of Lister and became his dresser).
'... They certainly bear abundant testimony to your zeal & energy as a philanthropist: and as a small contribution to the testimonial, I beg you to accept a cheque for a guinea.
 'I am not likely to see Mr Cheyne for a month at least. ...'
