WILLIAM IV (1765-1837). King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Document Signed, 1 page folio (oblong) on vellum, in fine clean condition, given at St James's, 31 December 1830, the first year of his reign. Appointing Poole Vallancy England to be a second captain in the royal regiment of artillery commanded by the master-general of the ordnance, Sir James Kempt (1763/4-1854), who has countersigned the document. Poole Vallanc(e)y England was born in New Jersey in 1787. He became a second lieutenant in the royal artillery in 1805 and rose to the rank of general in 1873. He died at Dover in 1884.
