NAPIER, Sir Charles James (1782-1853). Lieutenant-general, 'conqueror of Sind'.
Autograph Letter Signed as Commander of the Northern District to [Sir Edward Charles] Whinyates, 1 page folio with integral address-leaf, Calveley [Hall], 11 August 1841. Asking that a District Order be issued, with the text of the order in Napier's hand on the verso.
'... All right about your movements. Send the proper routes. ...'
Napier refers to the Carlisle Magistrates as 'a nice set of Chaps! As Sir Hew Ross says a little tread mill would do some people no harm'.
The District Order which Napier asks to be issued commends a troop of Horse Artillery for their good conduct while in the Northern District.
