Colonel John Wilson a military knight of the Royal Guelphic Order. A note from James Hodson, expressing his delight at the appontment, is appended to the document. The Royal Guelphic Order was a joint British and Hanoverian order of chivalry, initiated by the Prince Regent. With the dissolution of the personal union between the two countries in 1837, the order ceased to be conferred in Britain. Ompteda's father, Baron Christian (1765-1815), had been killed at Waterloo.
