O'CONNOR, Sir Luke (1831-1915). Major-general; first man to be awarded the VC.
Autograph Letter Signed to Knightley, 2½ pages 8vo, on writing paper of the Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff, Co. Cork, 24 November no year. Explaining that his travels delayed receipt of Knightley's letter and that he would be willing to send a recommendation for his son.
O'Connor was awarded the VC when it was introduced in 1856, his gallantry having been displayed during the Crimean War at the Battle of the Alma (September 1854) and later at the assault on the Redan (September 1855).
