Sending a draft of a letter to the Pall Mall to whom he has reluctantly written, and enthusiastically accepting Owen's invitation to inspect the dodo's bones in the Museum.

'... I have always had the utmost abhorrence of the unprincipled manner in which that paper is conducted, and nothing but your request would I think have induced me to write to it. It is one's duty sometimes to touch pitch. ...'
