Liszt declines to supply Wagner's autograph.

LISZT, Franz (1811-1886). Hungarian composer and pianist.
Letter Signed in English (a bold but shaky signature) to an unnamed correspondent, 3 pages 8vo (slight thinning to second leaf), Weimar, no date. A most unusual letter, remarkable for being written in English (albeit in a scribal hand) and also for the association value of its content.
'I am very sorry not to be able to gratify your wish, with respect to an autograph of Richard Wagner. Having already given away, in similar cases, the only letters of him I could spare ...'
