MASCAGNI, Pietro (1863-1945). Italian opera composer. Autograph Document Signed, addressed to Walter Mocchi, 1 page 4to, marked 'Copia', San Paolo, 6 August 1911. With a translation. Mocchi was a well-known impresario, who had before the date of this document been director the Teatro Costanzi where Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana was first performed. His first wife was Emma Carelli. The present document refers to the controversy that had arisen that day between the two men. '... Leaving aside the personal question ..., I should like to refer to ... our contract dated 31st December 1910 and I wish to invoke the arbitrating college. I am informing you that in the meantime I shall stop directing performances, since ... I cannot continue to work as I am working now while for your part all you have to show is a continual lack of regard for me.' [No: 23524]
