RAVEL, Maurice (1875-1937). French composer.
Autograph Music Quotation Signed comprising the first three bars of the violin part of his Quatuor for strings, 1902-1903, [London] 27 April 1909. Written on a card from Pagani's [restaurant] with the words 'At Pagani's April 27th 09' printed on the reverse (slightly protruding through the card).
Ravel was in London at the invitation of the Société des Concerts Français. 1909 was a notable year for Ravel - the completion of L'Heure Espagnole, his first experience of the Ballets Russes, his first meeting with Stravinsky, and the commissioning by Diaghilev of Daphnis et Chloé.
