JEKYLL, Gertrude (1843-1932). Artist and garden designer.
Three Autograph Letters Signed to Miss Sevinge in Farnham, in all 4 pages 8vo with two envelopes, Munstead Wood, Godalming, 7 and 19 April 1931 and August 29 no year. Exchanging plants and information about them, stating, in her last letter, that her gardener has sent the wrong plant ('but I do not regret it as it is one of the best').
'Your blue pea having been to the authorities at Kew, proves to be the well known Lathyrus sativus, var. azareus. It varies much in colour, is usually paler. I should have recognised it but that it is a better blue than usual. If it seeds well with you I should be pleased of a few seeds. It has nothing to do with Egypt or mummies as it is a South European plant...'
Lathyrus sativus is known colloquially as Tutankamen's Pea.
