SHOVELL, Sir Clowdisley (1660-1707). Admiral of the Fleet. Letter Signed addressed at the foot to the Clerk of the cheque at Portsmouth dockyard, 1 page folio with endorsed second leaf, Navy Office, 15 January 1695. Signed as one of the 'Principall Officers & Com[misione]rs of his Ma[jes]ties Navy' and by six fellow officers. A little browned overall. Conveying the resolution passed by the Commissioners of the Admiralty that the complements of the ships Orford and Jersey be reduced to 95 men each 'and that what men the latter has above the said complement be Turned over to the London Merchant Hospitall ship at Spitthead in order to their being disposed of as their Hon[ou]rs shall direct'.
