FAURE, Gabriel (1845-1924). French composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent (Mon cher ami'), on two sides of a correspondence-card, Conservatoire National de Musique, Paris, 19 January no year. Introducing Madame Albéniz, widow of the 'much lamented composer', who wished to consult him about a new translation of Pepita Jiménez.
Pepita Jiménez, Isaac Albéniz's one-act opera based on a novel by Juan Valera, was first performed on 5 January 1896, in Italian, at the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona. A French translation was published in Brussels in 1905, and a new translation in Paris in 1923.
Albéniz had married his piano pupil Rosa Jordana in 1883.
