WAGNER, Richard
(1813-1883). Composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to Herr Schott (the music publisher in Mainz), 1 page 8vo with integral blank, Karlsruhe, 2 February ('62' added in another hand). With a transcript and translation.
'I intend to arrive in Mainz at the Holländischer Hof on Tuesday 4th by the last train leaving from here. Accordingly our reading project could presumably stay fixed for Wednesday evening. ...' From 1855 until his death Franz Philipp Schott (1811-74), the son of Johann Andreas, carried on the publishing house as sole proprietor. Under him a connection with Wagner was formed in 1859, after which the firm published the latter's music dramas Der Ring des Nibelungen, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Parsifal. Other composers of Wagner's circle turned to Schott, including Liszt, with whom there had already been a slight connection since 1837, as well as Cornelius, Wolf and Humperdinck.
