SCOTT, Sir Walter (1771-1832). Novelist & poet. Autograph Letter Signed to J.N. Hughes in Maidstone, 1 page 4to with address-leaf, Abbotsford, 10 October [1827]. Asking Hughes to send the catalogue of his manuscripts. 'I am honoured by your Letter of 7th October & much gratified by the proposal it contains. The catalogue of the Mss in your possession I should be most happy to peruse and it will reach me safely if addresssed to me under cover to Mr Freeling Post Office General London who will take the trouble to forward it to me under an office frank. ...'There appears to be no reference to this Hughes in Corson's Notes and Index to Grierson's edition the Letters of Sir Walter Scott, and it seems likely that the letter is unpublished.
