MAUND, Benjamin (1790-1864). Botanistical writer & illustrator.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, 2½ pages 12mo, Bromsgrove, 5 January 1855. Asking his correspondent to vet his entry ('As the "London Trade" think the time is approaching when the Dict. shd be sent out').
'... We are much pleased with the Boston vegetable Marrow. My largest fruit was 14st and of this we are now eating. The flesh is of deep orange colour & somewhat more dry & mealy than the old vegetable marrow. Its flavour is superior to it, & as a soup ingredient it is excellent. ... What is your opinion of the Dioscorea batatos? Is it worth purchasing at its present high price?.'
