WAGNER, Richard (1813-1883). Composer.
Autograph Letter Signed in characteristic purple ink to a friend, 1 page 8vo with integral blank, no date [perhaps from Leipzig, 12 May 1871]. With a translation. Asking him to have the kindness to send 'the enclosed copies of the green brochure in my name to Herr Tausig' (whose Berlin address he gives); he mentions his tiredness and gives details of his plans to travel the following morning via Frankfurt. The great pianist Carl Tausig (born 1841) was one of Wagner's leading champions in Berlin; tragically, he died of typhoid on 17 July 1871. The 'green brochure' may have been the one issued in connection with the publication of his collected literary works, begun that year. Wagner travelled from Leipzig to Darmstadt via Frankfurt on 13 May 1871. £2250 [No: 22975] |
