ANGLESEY, Sir Henry William Paget, Marquess of of (1768-1854). Field Marshal, lost a leg at Waterloo.
Autograph Letter Signed to [illegible], 2 page 8vo, Uxbridge House, 22 May 1827. Perhaps referring to his Waterloo wound, assuring his correspondent that 'under the treatment of Dr. ?L'Affan I have been relieved from the Pain I suffered'.
Letters of this remarkable soldier, diplomat, adulterer and duellist, perhaps best known for his remark to the Duke of Wellington on 18 June 1815 'By God, sir, I've lost my leg', are rarely seen on the market.
