WALTON, Sir William (1902-1983). Composer.
Series of four Autograph Letters Signed to the Greek harpsichordist Lina Lalandi, 4 pages 8vo, Ischia, 1971 & 1972, with one by his wife Susana, 1977. Largely concerning the work of the English Bach Festival and making arrangements for concerts, principally in Oxford.
'... I should'nt (sic) if I were you exert yourself on behalf of B[elshazzar']s Feast. It needs a great effort & I myself last time I did it found it so exhuasting that I've had to give all idea of every conducting it again. ...'
'... now news from Diana Rix asking me if I can conduct "Façade" at the Oxford Festival. I am happy to be able to say that I am delighted to do so. ... I have received recently an enthusiastic letter from one George Rourakos about a performance of my 'cello concerto in Athens, played by Ormezoroski, a really first-rate 'cellist - a riot - over twenty calls!'
'... The Jubilate is not so hot - but I dare say hot enough for the Cathedral. Awkward these occasional pieces are sometimes - in fact more often than not.'
