Unless otherwise indicated the image is of the most significant part of the object

WISEMAN, Nicholas Patrick Stephen (1802-1865). Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.
Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Dr Manning', 1 page 8vo, laid down, Walthamstow, Wedy. E[aster] W[eek] 1855. Sending a letter 'which I think will please you' ('All I know of the writer is that he wrote to me a few years ago from Scotland, asking advice about books. ')
Wiseman is almost certainly writing to the recent convert, later his great friend and his successor as Archibishop of Westminster, Henry Edward Manning. Rather against Manning's own wishes Wiseman had ordained him priest within ten weeks of his reception into the Roman Catholic Church in 1851. He gained a papal doctorate in 1855, which would explain the particular salutation in the present letter.
