Autograph Letter Signed to Napoleon from his stepson 'Votre Respectueux et tendre fils et fidel sujet / Eugene Napoléon', 1 page folio, Monza, 18 July 1807. Forwarding a group of recently captured enciphered dispatches (no longer included), noting that 'le Style des lettres de Vienne et Rome a tout-à-fair changé'.
Eugène de Beauharnais (1781-1824) was the son of Napoleon's wife, Josephine, by her first husband. He served with Napoleon in Egypt, was made viceroy of Italy in 1805, and was formally adopted by Napoleon and made heir apparent to the crown of Italy in 1806.
