Autograph Letter Signed ('S.L. Clemens / Mark Twain'), to Lady Ann[a] Chandos-Pole, 1 page 8vo, Bad-Nanheim, 30 August 1892. Writing at the suggesting of Mr [Chauncy Mitchell?] Depew, and endeavouring to provide the best example of his penmanship.
'Mr Depew says "Write!" and I obey, holding it a privilege. And although the result is only a sample of penmanship and a wish, both are my very best: for I couldn't write better than this to save me ...'
